WHAT IS BEYOND THE BLOCK?
Beyond the Block is a community-led campaign calling on Vancouver's next City Council to deliver on the promises already made for Northeast False Creek.
While the plan was approved in 2018, many of its core commitments, including removing the viaducts, creating new housing and public spaces, supporting cultural redress, and advancing reconciliation remain unfinished.
This campaign is about turning years of planning into meaningful action and ensuring communities remain at the centre of what comes next.
WHO WE ARE
Beyond the Block is powered by a coalition of community organizations who share a commitment to the future of Northeast False Creek. Together, we're working to ensure the promises made to this neighbourhood are delivered with transparency, accountability, and community leadership.
WHAT WE’RE ASKING FOR
REMOVE & FUND THE VIADUCTS
Make removing the Georgia and Dunsmuir Viaducts a municipal priority and secure the funding needed to move the project forward. Viaduct removal is key to delivering new housing, public spaces, cultural redress, reconciliation, and lasting community benefits.
ADVANCE PLANNING AND APPROVALS
Keep Northeast False Creek moving by using the City's planning tools—including zoning, rezoning, and phased approvals—to unlock housing and community benefits sooner, while protecting the vision of the approved plan.
CREATE A COMMUNITY TASK FORCE
Establish a Northeast False Creek Task Force with meaningful community representation and transparent public reporting to keep implementation visible, accountable, and community-led.
WHY IT MATTERS
Northeast False Creek represents one of Vancouver's greatest opportunities to build a more connected, equitable city. Delivering on the commitments already made means creating new housing, expanding public spaces, supporting legacy businesses, advancing reconciliation, and honouring the communities that have shaped this neighbourhood for generations.
